Caps
and Gowns

Caps and gown sales for Fall 2008 Commencement
will be announced at a later date.
Fall 2008 degree candidates will soon be able to pre-order
their regalia and announcements online!
Fall 2008 undergraduate degree candidates that have
submitted the Undergraduate
Commencement RSVP form will be eligible to purchase
the regalia package for the Fall 2008 commencement
during the Fall semester. Students interested in attending
the Spring 2009 commencement will be able to submit
the RSVP form starting in January 2009, and must purchase
their regalia in the Spring 2009 semester.
Formal regalia, specially designed
for Binghamton University, is mandatory for all students
participating in the formal commencement. Student
regalia packages include the cap, gown, tassel, stole,
and six guest tickets to the ceremony. The undergraduate
cost for the regalia package is around $65.00. Students
are able to purchase the cap and gown packets in the
University Bookstore during a specified time period.
Every effort is made to ensure a variety of cap sizes
and gown lengths are available throughout the purchase
period; pre-ordering is not required. However, if
you have concerns about obtaining a cap and gown that
will fit you properly, please complete a pre-order
during the correct semester.
There is no official dress code for
what students should wear under the regalia. Due to
the formality of the occasion, business dress is reccommended.
For men, this would include slacks, button-down shirt
with tie, or suit. For women, slacks with a blouse,
or a dress is appropriate.
Faculty and Staff that require academic
regalia for the Commencement ceremonies will have
arrangements made through Mr. Ransom at the University
Bookstore. Regalia rentals will be available for pick-up
the week prior to the events. Tickets are not required
for attending faculty and staff. If family members
wish to join participating faculty and staff in attending
the ceremony, please contact the Commencement
Office
~The
Tradition of~
The Stole of Gratitude
Many students know an individual
that has provided unconditional support and
encouragement during their academic years.
The Stole of Gratitude is a symbol of appreciation
for this relationship, and provides a visual
reminder of how much that person meant to
you during these challenging years. Graduates
may sign the white satin stole they wear during
the ceremony with a permanent, fine-tip marker,
and provide words of affection and thankfulness
for their supporter; family and friends may
also contribute to the decoration. The stole
is then presented to the recipient after the
graduation ceremony, to honor their contribution
to the new graduate's achievements.
If you are interested in participating
in this tradition, you may choose to use the
stole included in your regalia packet, or
purchase an additional stole. Please contact
the University Bookstore with any questions
regarding this possibility: (607) 777-2745.
